Gospel

Luke 8:16-18

Jesus said to the crowd: "No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away.”

Reflection

Jesus revealing the heart of his message. He wants us to believe that the Holy Spirit, God Himself, dwells within each of our hearts. It's like a light. We are the candle, the spirit is the light. And when it enters into a person, it opens them to the most important thing, truth. So he's saying, take care how you understand my work in the world today.

Understand that my truth is what you long for. You need to listen to it. And if you don't, you lose everything. Most especially the work you have of awakening the consciousness of the world.

Closing Prayer

Father, bless us with an awareness of how you are working in us. And most especially, bless us with the conviction that what you share with us is truly your truth, your life in us. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
